Job Title: Lead Bartender
Location: Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY
Job Type: Hourly ($20/hr plus tips)

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the non-alcoholic space, with a flair for creativity and innovation in mixology. While experience in non-alcoholic beverages is preferred, it is not mandatory. Knowledge of common bartending techniques and a strong desire to continually learn new methods are crucial.
The lead bartender position encompasses all that bartenders do with added responsibilities. While the assistant manager is always available to act as an arbiter and final word via phone, we trust that our lead bartender is able to make discretionary calls with the help of SOP texts as needed. The lead bartender is the final authority on the floor when acting in accordance with Mockingbird policy.
The lead bartender is responsible for opening the bar, taking inventory at that time, preparing for the shift, and finally divvying up cash tips at the end of the shift. Lead bartenders conduct inventory and communicate that to the assistant manager before each shift. Lead bartenders have an in-depth knowledge of our menu, our mission statement, and NA mixology principles that can be communicated succinctly to customers. Lead bartenders MUST have a food protection certificate or acquire one before their first shift.
Responsibilities:
- Craft and execute a high-caliber menu of non-alcoholic cocktails.
- Manage and train bar staff, ensuring high standards of service and expertise.
- Oversee bar operations, including inventory management.
Engage with guests to provide a memorable and bespoke bar experience.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the bar area in compliance with health and safety regulations.
Minimum Requirements:
- 2+ years of bartending experience in a high-end bar or restaurant.
- Ability to stand for 6-7 hours per day and lift up to 50lbs.
- Basic computer skills for managing inventory and processing orders.
- Must have previously completed the DOHMH food protection course or be willing to obtain it before starting employment.

Mixing and serving cocktails to customer tastes is only one of a bartender’s many jobs within the bar. Ensuring the safety of staff and guests is the bartender’s number one priority, of course, but cultivating an upbeat and enjoyable environment is a close second. Bartenders can often be the only tether between people in the community looking for connection; this doesn’t change because our bar is zero-proof.
Acting as a resource for customers and cocktail servers both takes on extra significance in the context of a zero-proof bar, which most people are unfamiliar with. Balancing the educational aspects of this position while also preparing drinks is a tall ask, but Mockingbird bartenders rise to the occasion and are happy to answer any questions.
Responsibilities:

Cocktail servers at Mockingbird play an integral role in bridging the gap between the wide swath of expertise behind the bar to the curious customers on the floor. In addition to executing your standard customer service principles with aplomb, servers at Mockingbird raise the bar by consistently providing friendly and memorable interactions. They understand that our customers are our community and treat them as such.
When taking orders, servers ask any relevant questions about drink preparation so that bartenders don’t need to pause service to ask. They make thoughtful, well informed suggestions pulling from the guest’s tastes as well as their own expertise. Servers at Mockingbird are studied in the principles of NA mixology and can communicate our mission statement effectively on the fly.
They are responsible for keeping the floor clear of debris and empty glasses in the course of service. They may also be asked by the bartender to restock any items depleted behind the bar during a shift, such as ice. Carding guests, asking after allergies, and keeping an eye on corners where the bartender’s eyes can’t reach are integral to the safety of the server’s coworkers and customers.
Responsibilities:
Provide attentive and friendly service to all guests, ensuring a welcoming and enjoyable experience.
Present and serve non-alcoholic cocktails, beer, wine and food with knowledge and enthusiasm.
Maintain a clean and organized service area, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
Assist with setting up and breaking down the service area before and after shifts.
Manage guest orders and transactions efficiently and accurately.
Collaborate with the bar team to ensure smooth operations and a seamless guest experience.
Minimum Requirements:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
